Larry E. Bartley, age 73 of Jasper, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday (January 15, 2013) at home.

Larry was born on August 1, 1939 in St. Meinrad, IN to Edwin and Viola (Wilmes) Bartley. He married Shirley Kleiser on May 18, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN.

Anyone who knew Larry knows of his God given carpentry talents which he honed early in his career working for Andrew Klem Construction. We all benefited from him in everything from fixing out basements better than anyone else , to finding a solution for any household challenge. He then found his love for the tire business first at Hoffman Tire and Supply and then his entrepreneurial spirit took over and he and his partner, Irvin Gehlhausen began a dream in B&G Tire. He was a partner there for 25 years, and then at the perfect timing of Jasper getting their first Walmart and opening a tire center, Larry went to help them get it started as their Tire and Lube Manager. He also worked in the Operations area as a manager for Stens Corporation. He finished his career at St. Vincent de Paul as Co-Manager with his wife and retired from there.

Larry's giving spirit could be seen by his years of sponsorship of men's softball, youth softball, bowling teams, and just about anything else the community needed. He was instrumental in bringing youth softball to this area. Larry was inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame at Oklahoma City, OK in 1985 as a sponsor of youth, men's, and women's teams. He cherished the memories of all his softball friends. For many years on Labor Day he sponsored a youth softball tourney for the surrounding area.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, the Ireland Sportsman's Club, and The Dubois County Right to Life.

He was a PFC in the Army Reserves Military Police Division.

He had a passion for woodworking, and was a avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Indiana Hoosiers Basketball Team.
