Mrs. Gertrude Cecilia (Aurentz) Steckbeck passed away at 7:20 o'clock on Thursday evening at her home, 20 Mifflin Street one week after she passed her 48th wedding anniversary. It was planned to celebrate the occasion last week but her illness prevented it, as she suffered an apopletic stroke on the dya previous to the date set for the celebration. She was 69 years of age. The decedent was widely known throughout the city and county and will be missed in various circles in which she was active. She was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church and was affiliated with the various societies of the parish. She was a charter member of Kimmerling's Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry, the Pennsylvania Catholic Beneficial League and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Progressive Playground Association. She is survived by her husband, John C. Steckbeck, and these children: James, John and E. Michael, all of Lebanon; Lieut. George, USA in Hawaii; Pfc. Joseph, USA South Pacific; Seaman Second Class Phillip, USN; Pfc. Theodore, USA in Texas; Mrs. Ivan Emswiler, Mrs. Cyril Faust and Mrs. Edward Gamble, all of Lebanon; Sister John Gertrude of the Order of St. Joseph, Philadelphia. Also surviving are thirty grandchildren; a brother, John W. Aurentz, Hershey, and a sister, Mrs. George Hartman, Forneydale. [Lebanon Daily News 10 Nov 1944]
