Funeral services for Alfonzo H. Campbell, 62 years of age, were held Monday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the Methodist church with the Rev. R. L. Sleamaker in charge, assisted by the Rev. A. H. Gregory. Burial was in Brookside. Mr. Campbell died at his home East of town Friday night at 9:20 after an extended illness of cancer. He was a well known resident and farmer, a native of the county. He professed faith early in life and was a member of the Campbellsville Methodist Church. Mr. Campbell united in marriage to Miss Maud Bowen in 1904 who survives him and to this union four sons and four daughters were born. Surviving are: Granvil, Pittsburgh, Pa.; John P., Amigo, West Va.; Paul, of Baltimore; Pfc. James Merlin Campbell at Camp Haan, Calif.; Mrs. Marie Binkley, of Salem, Ky.; Miss Grace Campbell, Louisville; Mrs. Lucille Daugherty, Louisville; and Miss Jaunetta Campbell at home. He also leaves a brother and sister, Porter Campbell, Taylor County, and Mrs Bessie Collins, of Crossville, Ill., and two grandchildren. Active pallbearers were: Joe Murrah, Malcolm Cox, Evan Watson, Porter Hord, George Newcomb, and Willie Warner. Honorary, George Sapp, E. A. Rose, R. B. Allen, O. C. Spurling, W. J. Rice, and Bob Gowdy. The flowerbearers were: Dean Beard, Doris Hill, Mary Barbara Ramsey, Anna Laura Hord, Marilyn Miller, Marion Tucker, Mildred Edwards, and Virginia Curry. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, November 18, 1943
