George W. Christine, a venerable resident of the Third ward, passed away suddenly at 2 o'clock this morning, after a few hours' illness. He was 80 years of age and his death was due directly to the infirmities of advanced years.
He had not been confined to bed and seemed in his usual health Monday. He ate a hearty supper in the evening, then went out for a little stroll, as was his habit. When he retired for the night he seemed unwell but the family felt no alarm, thinking the unfavorable symptoms would pass away as they had often done before. They sat by his bedside, however, and saw him pass peacefully into a quiet slumber, from which he never awoke.
The deceased was born in Reading and came to New Castle 55 years ago. This city has since been his home. His wife died in 1882. Since her departure he has lived with his only surviving child, James Christine, of No. 9 Milton Street.
In politics he was a staunch Republican. In religion he adhered to the doctrines of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a life-long member of this denomination.
He was a man of singularly upright character and possessed many warm friends, who will sincerely mourn his departure.
The services attending the funeral will be held from the late home of the deceased on Milton Street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The interment will be at Greenwood.
