On May 26th, 1946, Dorthy Lee Brown was born in Sunflower County, MS to the Late Mr. Joe Lee Brown, Sr., and Mrs. Darthola Lee Brown Allen. She was the first of four children born to this union. Dorthy was a woman of faith and fortitude until her transition into her eternal home on Sunday, July 22nd, 2012. Her parents taught her the value of family, concern for others, hard work, and education; and she exemplified these traits in every aspect of her life.

Dorthy received her elementary and secondary education in the Sunflower County Public School System. After graduating from Gentry High School in 1964, Dorthy relocated to Chicago, IL with a dear Aunt Ann, who took Dorthy under her wings; where she would blossom into a beautiful rose. She continued her education at Roosevelt University, receiving a B.S. degree in Management; and soon joined the Illinois Bell company, where she excelled as an engineer. After thirty-four years of employment with the Bell Companies, she retired with AT&T, and returned to her roots in Mississippi to care for her mother, Darthola. Living life to its fullest, Dorthy was committed to her mother's care until her untimely death.

Though she never married or had children, Dorthy embraced and cared for her special nieces and nephews as if her own. Her beautiful smile and charm were infectious, as she was a woman of style and grace with impeccable taste. Though Dorthy is absent from the body, she shall forever be present with the Lord.

To cherish her memory and carry her legacy, Dorthy leaves her beloved mother, Darthola Lee Brown Allen; her loving sister, Barbara Ann Griffin; devoted brothers, George W. Brown (Evelyn), and Jessie Brown. Nieces, Donnis (David), Darsha, Erica, Gwen, and Trina; and nephews, Toussaint (Sherae), Timothy, Damien, and Oryan. Special Aunts; Diane Barnes, Gloria Neal, Margaret Winston, Fannie Lane, and Charlotte Webber; as well as many loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 28th, 2012 at Bell Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the directorship of Byas Funeral Home.
