Sir John sought a pardon 27 March 1332 and received restoration. There was a suit against a Richard de Jarpenville regarding lands in Shabbington in 1328.
John was at the Crecy expedition, the 2nd division, in 1346. He received licence to crenellate his residences at Rotherfield and Sculcoates in 1346.
Sir John was a founder of the Knights of the Order of Garter.
