CANTON - Stanley J. Butt, 75, of Tarkio, Mo., formerly of rural Lewistown, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
Stanley J. Butt, the son of Otto and Ella Butt, was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Westboro, Mo.
Stanley was a graduate of Tarkio High School in Tarkio, Mo., and Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville with a B.S. in agriculture/business.
He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Munich, Germany, as a chaplain's assistant.
Stanley was married to Anna Mildred Maxon on June 10, 1955, in Maryville, Mo. Following his time in the service, Stanley attended Iowa State University and graduated with a M.S. in animal science.
He was general manager of Norris Farms in rural Lewistown, Ill., from 1957 to 1978. From 1978 to 1984, Stanley was the manager/owner of Avon Miles Feed, Fertilizer and Grain Storage in Avon, Ill. Stanley moved to Atkinson, Neb., and became vice president and general manager of National Farm Products from 1985 to 1987. He was director of agricultural operations at the Amana Society Farms in Amana, Iowa, from 1987 to 1992. From 1992 to 2001, Stanley was manager of Ag Partners/Tarkio Pelleting Facility in Tarkio, Mo.
Following retirement, Stanley served as a youth counselor, working with boys 13 to 18 years old at the Youth Services International campus located in Tarkio, Mo, until 2004.
Stanley was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Westboro, Mo.
He enjoyed being involved in many community/business organizations, woodworking, collecting John Deere toys, and working in his yard and garden.
During his time in rural Lewistown, he was on the Fulton County Fair Board, active with the Rotary Club in Havana, Ill., and initiated new agricultural technologies working closely with John Deere and Ralston Purina companies. In his capacity as ag manager at Amana Colonies, Stanley headed the management team that planned a permanent ag exhibition site and Iowa Tourist Information Center for the 1988 World Ag Expo. He assisted in negotiating with Farm Progress Companies a contract to hold the Farm Progress Shows at the Amana site six times in alternating years, beginning with the 1988 show.
He was a lifetime member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199.
Survivors include one son, Frederick Butt and his wife Susan of Crescent City, Ill.; and one daughter, Lisa Davis and her husband Gary of Lewistown, Ill. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Nicole Butt, Ashley Butt and Megan Davis; one grandson, Nathan Davis; one stepgrandson, Scott Links and his wife, Alana; one stepgranddaughter, Sarah Links; and other special children, Kashia, Monte, Sara, Tasha, Sheena and Echo.
Stanley is also survived by one brother, Raymond Butt of Lewis, Iowa; one sister Carolyn Olsen and her husband Claire, of Horton, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Anna Mildred, wife of 49 years; and his parents, Otto and Ella Butt.
There will be no local services.
