WESTERNPORT — Don Clifton Bateson, 83, of 435 Vine St., Westernport, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at his residence.
Born Jan. 8, 1929 in Westernport, he was the son of the late Don and Eula Bateson. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Don Jeffrey Bateson, and a sister, Regina Neat.
Don was a 1948 graduate of Bruce High School. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Westvaco Corp., having worked in Quality Control. Don was a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, a member of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775, and a member of the US Bowling Congress. He was an avid bowler and pool shooter and in his last years he loved doing jig saw puzzles. Don also enjoyed doing home improvements on his children’s homes.
He leaves behind his wife, Phyllis (Fox) Bateson; a son, Jay Bateson and wife Jami, of Severna Park; two daughters, Terri Boggs and husband Kenny of LaVale, and Toby Timney and husband Tom of Westernport; a sister, Mildred Stine of Falls Church, Va.; and his grandchildren, Jacob Layton, Cody Brill, Jill Bateson, Jordan Bateson, and Whitney Bateson and step-grandchild, Audriana Beckman. He is also survived by two special sister-in-laws, Libby Shoulders of Morgantown, W.Va. and Mary Jo Levin of Stonebridge, Va.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Sherry Ziler officiating.
Interment will be Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
