He departed this life in Oxford, Mississippi on November 15, 2020. He was 77 years old.
Dewayne enlisted in the United States Navy on October 12, 1960. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise Aircraft Carrier. He received his honorable discharge on December 13, 1963 in Norfold, VA with the rank of AMS3 (E-4).
On July 2, 1966 in Caruthersville, MO he was united in marriage to Wanda Christian. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Dewayne was always busy. He worked at Colson, the Shipyard and then retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years. He served Ward 4 of Caruthersville as a City Council Alderman for 2 terms.
After retiring he worked building houses and later went to work for his brother doing electrical work. He enjoyed being outdoors, working in the yard and on his own house. He would spend hours on the computer doing research or looking for information for other people. He enjoyed his daily morning coffee pals, where he was jokingly known as their "Coffee Shop Lawyer." He was always seeking knowledge off his computer and he would also spend fun time playing poker on it. He enjoyed watching westerns on T.V. and old serial movies.
Dewayne was always doing something. His goal was to accomplish at least one chore per day.
He was a very loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda McCall of Caruthersville, MO, one son, Aaron McCall and his wife, Jenifer of West Memphis, AR, his 2 granddaughters, Hannah McCall of Jonesboro, AR and Heidi McCall of West Memphis, AR, 3 brothers, Richard McCall, Thomas McCall of Caruthersville, MO, and Milburn McCall of Braggadocio, MO, 1 sister Wanda Holtzhauser of Troy, IL, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Earlie McCall, his daughter, Amanda McCall, 4 brothers, Wilburn, Mackie, Lilburn, and Ree McCall, 3 sisters, Leota Simpson, Evie Hudgens, and Imolee Gurley.
Funeral services were held Nov. 18 with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating. Interment in Maple Cemetery.
