Charles "Chuck" Fuller, October 23, 1924 - May 14, 2011
Charles "Chuck" Fuller passed away peacefully at David Grant Medical Center Saturday, May 14, 2011. Chuck was born in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska on October 23, 1924, to Amon and Ethel Fuller.
Chuck grew up in Scotts Bluff Nebraska and volunteered in the Navy during WWII. He served at Ford Island, Hawaii helping to repair the base infrastructure and aircraft after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He re-enlisted in the Air Force to serve in Korea and Viet Nam as a Flight Engineer on C-124's and C-141's retiring in 1968 at Travis AFB. He then went to work at Exxon in Benicia as a technician, retiring in 1985. Chuck married Jean Schmidt in Wasco, CA on August 16, 1952. The family lived in Massachusetts and Hawaii before settling in Fairfield.
Traveling was a passion of Chuck and Jean visiting several states in their RV and taking cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Mexico. Chuck was an avid gardener and graduated from the UC Davis Masters' Gardener's Program. Chuck was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels delivering meals to the elderly until he could no longer drive. His greatest passion, however, was his family and his grandchildren. He stressed the importance of education and for them to obtain their college degrees. Two of his grandchildren obtained their Masters' Degree and two are in the process of obtaining their BA degrees.
Chuck is preceded in death by his wife Jean, son David Fuller and sister Ruby Schuman of Nebraska. Surviving him include two sons, and four grandchildren. Per Chuck's request, a private family graveside service with full military honors will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for all donations to go to the charity of the donor's choice.
