She grew up on a farm in Wild Horse Valley and in Hendley, Nebraska and graduated from Beaver City High School with the Class of 1958. She received an Elementary Education degree from Kearney State College. She worked as an Elementary Teacher and a Librarian. She married her high school sweetheart Duane Ackerman on August 27, 1961 and together they had three children David, Lois and Lori. She was a loving, supportive wife and a caring, nurturing mother whose greatest joy came from being with her family. She enjoyed sewing, camping, and hiking, especially in the Teton Mountains and in Yellowstone where many happy summer vacations were spent. She treasured spending time with her seven grandchildren who absolutely adored her.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband Duane Ackerman of Lincoln, Nebraska; son David Ackerman and wife Michelle; daughters: Lois Coulter and husband John, Lori Penney and husband Brett; 7 grandchildren; Sidney Ackerman, Michael, Lea, and Nicholas Coulter, and Brandon, Jessica, and Brian Penney; sister: Elaine Marpel; brothers: Harley and Dwight Marpel.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Butherus Maser & Love Funeral Home of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Graveside services will be February 25, 2013 at 1:30 PM at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City, Nebraska with Rev. Michael Flury, officiating. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska is in charge of the graveside services.
