Marvin Joe Young

1929 ~ 2013

Marvin Joe Young, our most beloved Dad, Grandfather and family patriarch, made his journey to his home in heaven on Thursday, February 21, 2013, where his beloved wife, parents, and many family members awaited him in the presence of our Savior. Before his journey home, Marvin enjoyed a wonderful 83 year stay here on earth, living much of his life in the Wallsburg Valley. Early in his adult life, Marvin discovered his most precious treasure named Shirley Marie Odekirk, and married her on September 4, 1948, later solemnizing their marriage for all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. During these early years Marvin and Shirley soon found themselves surrounded by five adorable children, who, as life drifted by, gave them a grand posterity to forever be proud of, a posterity that will continue to grow always.

Although a full fledged mountain man, Marvin supported his family through his employment at the Geneva Steel Plant in Orem, Utah, where he worked as a heavy duty diesel mechanic for 37 years. He loved those mountains immensely, hunting deer and elk, and fishing the numerous creeks. With his wife, Shirley, he gave his children a firm belief in our Heavenly Father, and served in various callings in his LDS Wallsburg Ward.

Marvin is survived by his children, Shawna & Don Jeffs of Wallsburg, Joseph & Marcia of Wallsburg, Neil & Jeannie of Wallsburg, Ellen & Stephen Fowles of Price, Polly Jeffs of Wallsburg; siblings, Afton Shepherd, Carl Young, Loa Shepherd, Bonnie Hoskings, Gerald Young and Ruby Taylor; 18 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, parents Joseph and Lula Mecham Young, brothers Glenn and Fred Tisdale, sister Margaret Joan Young Shepherd, granddaughter Dusty Lynn Young Townley, great grandchildren Kazjia Lynn Young and Marvin Joe Young. God bless our family and happy travels to you Dad.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, at the Wallsburg LDS Church, 494 W Main Canyon Rd. Wallsburg, UT, at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday 9:30- 10:30 a.m. prior to the services both at the LDS church. Internment will be in the Wallsburg Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinhoopes.com
