Lewis was an engineer with Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan, USA, for 35 years. He then owned a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Uniontown, Pennsylvania before retiring to Bloomsburg. He designed and built several of his own homes. He was also an avid pilot and enjoyed flying his plane almost daily, especially right before and during his early retirement in the mid-1950s.
He was a member of the Washington Blue Lodge, F&AM, Caldwell Consistory, and the Uniontown Automotive Council.
