Jack Dando died in his sleep on his 91st birthday at Jasmine Court Nursing Home in Park Place, Weston-super-Mare.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean and younger brother, Ken, and his daughter Jill. He is survived by his journalist son, Nigel.

Jack was born in south Somerset and his family moved to Weston where his father was a policeman.
He joined the Weston Mercury in the late 1940s after World War II and spent most of his working life at the newspaper, heading up the composing room.Nigel and Jill also worked there as reporters at one time.

One of the highlights of Jack's retired life was when the team from the Ground Force TV programme created a memorial garden for his daughter Jill in Grove Park.
Jack lived in Worle for many years in Cornwallis Avenue and became a regular at Worle Community Association as well as an avid supporter of Weston Hospicecare. He also joined the Worle branch of the Royal British Legion and would regularly be seen selling poppies.His funeral was held at noon on Tuesday February 24.
