Mrs. Adelia, wife of Arnold Bertels of 28 North River street, died yesterday morning at the Bertels cottage at Lake Carey, after an illness of about a week with an acute attack of Bright's disease of the kidneys. Mrs. Bertels was taken ill very suddenly add her illness steadily progressed to a fatal termination.
Deceased before marriage was Adelia Stevens, daughter of the late Zebulon C. Stevens, at one time an extensive brick manufacturer of this city. She was born in this city March 2, 1838. In 1858 she married Arnold Bertels, who, with four children, survives—Jennie, Helen and Zebulon at home, and Mrs. Fell, wife of district attorney Daniel A. Fell. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters—George Stevens of this city, Mrs. Sarah Washburne of Ash street, this city, and Mrs. Mary Sharar of Scranton.
The remains will be brought to this city today. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at the residence, 23 North River street, and interment in Hollenback Cemetery.
Deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and in her journey through life she not only professed but practiced the principles of the Christian religion. Hers was an ideal type of womanhood. Her presence was always pleasant and friendly, and those who knew her best were her staunchest friends.
