ABERDEEN - James Earl Mabry, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at his home in Aberdeen. He was born Jan. 13, 1927, to Earl Jacob Mabry and Mary Ruth Browning Mabry Moffat in Mobile, Ala. He lived in Aberdeen the past 33 years. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He served 22 years, nine months and 18 days in the U.S. Army, retiring as a staff sergeant. He served in both the Korean and the Vietnam wars. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and two Loops and the Combat Infantry Badge. He retired from Burris Manufacturing. He was assistant manager of the Monroe County Home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with the Rev. David Westmoreland and the Rev. John Maxey officiating. Burial will be in the New Prospect Cemetery with military honors by the Mississippi Army National Guard 628th DASB, Tupelo, and American Legion Post 26, Aberdeen.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Simmons Mabry; three daughters, Virginia "Ginger" Evans and husband, Phillip, and Nancy Wilson and husband, Roy, all of Aberdeen, and Brenda Westmoreland and husband, David, of West Point; a sister, Helen Mabry Moffat of Aberdeen; a brother, H.E. Mabry of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren, Angela Shackelford and husband, Tony, Michael Evans, Jennifer Evans and Heather Wilson, all of Aberdeen, and Leann Westmoreland and Shelly Westmoreland of West Point; two great-grandchildren, Nick Grimes and Austin Schackelford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruby Ruth Mabry Hawks; and a brother, Elba Lee Mabry.

Pallbearers will be members of the Mississippi Army National Guard.
