William was the son of William and Elizabeth Lentz. He was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa. Where he met and married Anna Bandner. They moved for a short time to Memphis, Tennessee where William worked for Kresges. Shortly after, he was promoted and moved to Detroit with his family to manage the new Kresges store there. William and Anna had a daughter, Ruth. Anna and Ruth frequently accompanied William on buying trips to Japan and other destinations.
