Richard Harold Metcalf, 83, of Candler, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late James Carl and Annie Lee Rumbough Metcalf. He retired from Rainbow Baking Company after 38 years and loved Bass fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Smith Metcalf and brothers: Clarence, James Carl (J.C.) Jr., Wayne, and Joe and sisters: Tennie Mae, Vera, Myrtle and Irene.
He is survived by his children, Larry (Iva Jean) Metcalf, Linda Metcalf, Sandra DeBruhl and Sherry (Gerry) Dias; 8 granddaughters; 1 grandson; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and special friend, Ruby Arrington. He is also survived by one sister, June Metcalf Smith.
A Funeral Service was held at 3:00PM on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Mount Moriah Wesleyan Church, Candler, North Carolina with Pastor Worth Emory officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler. The family received friends on Friday from 6-8PM at Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church. At other times, the family was at the Dias home, 21 St. Matthew Drive, Candler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made to John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
