He was born Oct. 8, 1889, in Murphysboro, to Ernest and Anna Reinhardt Bantel. He married Bessie Biggs July 4, 1912, in Murphysboro. She died April 12,1957.
Mr. Bantel was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local 604 of Murphysboro. He had been vice-president of the 9th District of the Illinois State Council of Carpenters for 19 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. 1004 of Hurst.
He was also a member of the First Christian Church, of Murphysboro.
Survivors are daughters, Mrs. Homer Jenkins of Murphysboro, Mrs. Lavern Williams of Vandalia, and Mrs. Dorris Ragsdale of Centralia; sons, George of Carbondale, Robert of Charleston, S.C., and Ray of Murphysboro; sisters, Mary Berger of Murphysboro, Olga Piquard of East St. Louis, and Louise Bowlby of Valier; a brother, Joe of St. Louis; ... One brother preceded him in death.
