An angel was called home on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA, Mrs. Bertha H. Bland, of Petersburg, VA, formerly of Ford, VA.
She was born June 10, 1923 to the late Willie and Leola Hilliard in Dinwiddie, VA. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Olive Branch Baptist Church. Later moving her membership to Mt. Poole Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member until her health decline. She served on various committees including: Sunday Christian Education, Missionary, Hospitality and the Pastor Aide.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudie Bland; grandchild, Chandra Johnson; parents, Willie and Leola Hilliard; brothers, Aredale, Willie and Robert Hilliard and her sisters, Henrietta Bland and Sylvia Shands.
She leaves to treasure her memories, a loving and devoted daughter, Claudette Bland of Ettrick, VA; devoted sons, Delano Bland (devoted-Bertha) and Wondriet Bland (Sandra) of Petersburg, VA; six grandchildren, Timothy Bland, Sonya B. Williams, Detrell Bland, Melissa Mason, Calvin Washington all of Petersburg, VA and Alonzo Washington of Georgia; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ada Hilliard of Maryland and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, special church members and friends too numerous to name including: Carol Edward and Geraldine Spicly.
A celebration of life service will be held 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Mt. Poole Baptist Church, 9515 Baltimore Road, Ford, VA, the Rev. Stephen W. Pugh Pastor, Eulogist. The interment to following at the Mt. Poole Baptist Church Cemetery.
