Margaret Mary (Kus) Glunk "Marge" MATTHEWS - Margaret Mary (Kus) Glunk, affectionately called "Marge," 71, of Matthews, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, with her daughters holding her hands, her sons-in-law by her side, and her late husband in Heaven guiding her to peace. Marge's family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, from 3:00-6:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 4, at 11:00 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC, with Monsignor John J. McSweeney Celebrant. A reception will follow in the lobby. Marge was born on October 17, 1941, in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Casmir and Rose (Bawol) Kus. She graduated from Nativity High School where she was prom queen and later moved to Detroit. Marge's first job was at General Motors prior to moving to North Carolina in 1972, where she resided in Charlotte with her husband, Kirk, and her two daughters, Kim and Karen. Marge worked as an interior designer before she found her dream job as a Visual Merchandiser for Belk Store Services. Marge loved her yearly business excursions to New York City to study the latest styles and bring home the latest trends. Marge decorated impressive store window displays and was an excellent seamstress, making clothing, draperies, pillows, table clothes and more. She found joy in decorating her home and homes for her friends and family. Marge loved shopping so much that she acquired the nick name "Marge Charge" and always found the most thoughtful gifts for her children, grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, whom she loved to spoil. Her beautifully wrapped presents were always adorned with elaborate ribbons and bows. Marge was the "Hostess with the Mostest," particularly at Christmas, with multiple trees decorated to perfection. Her table settings were carefully orchestrated with themed place settings and festive visuals. Marge was creative and artistic with a fondness of black and white, which became her trademark color scheme. She was proud of her Polish heritage and she never missed an opportunity to Polka dance with her husband. When Marge retired from Belk she traveled with her husband on cruises and in their RV to various places, volunteered with The Knights of Columbus where her husband was a member, and enjoyed time with her family. Marge's personality was one of confidence and spontaneity. She was a go-getter who didn't take "no" for an answer, was daring, fun, and wasn't afraid to take risks. She encouraged her daughters to push themselves, never give up, and stay positive. Marge loved her coffee and always carried a large purse filled with essentials, prepared for anything. She was a classy, beautiful woman with a knack for style, flawless skin and lovely silver hair. Most of all, Marge was strong and brave with life's challenges due to her family and strong Catholic faith. Marge was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Kirk John Glunk, who passed away in August 2012. Theirs was a marriage to be admired and all find comfort in knowing they are together again. Marge was also preceded in death by her younger brother, Larry Kus and wife Sally. Survivors include daughters Kimberly Ann Mans Quackenbush and husband Paul of Raleigh and Karen Rose Martin and husband Scott of Charlotte; grandchildren Kirk Charles Mans and Michael John Mans of Raleigh, Madison Rose Martin of Charlotte and Alyssa Lee Quackenbush of Raleigh; siblings Fran Walden and husband Rich and Pat Schmidt and husband Jerry, both of Sterling Heights, Michigan, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The Glunk, Martin, Mans, and Quackenbush families wish to thank St. Matthew Church, The Knights, Hospice Staff, family and friends for their love and support.
