George Albright, of German descent, was born in Hawley PA and lived for 65 years in Scranton PA where he worked as a molder for the Lackawanna Railroad until his retirement. He was married to MaryAnn Jones and together they had nine children; Leah (Fey), Philip, James (who died at the age of 20 in the 1918 flu epidemic) Mary (Mitchell), George (who died just three weeks after his father), Fred, John, Elizabeth (who died at the age of 3) and Helen (Withers). He had a sister, Mary Bennett, who survived him. At the time of his death, he had 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Grandpa Albright was a hard-working man and I recall how much he enjoyed smoking his pipe. In the late 1940s he and Grandma went with us on our first trip to Florida, all seven of us packed into one little car; my brother George & I, our parents Helen & Jack Withers, Grandma & Grandpa, & my mother's sister, my Aunt Mame (Mary). That was a three day road trip back in those days but we all had a great time and Grandpa thought Florida was like heaven.
Grandpa died at West Side Hospital after a long illness with bladder cancer and services were held at the Tague Funeral Home with Rev. Harry E. Brooks of West Park Methodist Church officiating. He was buried in Washburn Street Cemetery in Scranton where Grandma joined him four years later and where several of his children are buried.
