Born June 6, 1937 in Fort Supply, Oklahoma, to C.I. and Kathryn (Boyle) Dodson, Karolyn was raised and educated in Chouteau, graduating from Chouteau High School. While in high school she played forward on the high school basketball team and sang in the choir. After graduation Karolyn earned her Associates Degree in Physical Education from Bacone College in Muskogee, where she also sang in the choir. She began her work career with Shell Oil Company and the Atomic Energy Commission, eventually securing a position with American Airlines where she retired in 1995 after 25 years.
Karolyn always made time for her family. Her loving attentiveness and disciplines gave constant assurance of how much she loved them, and her frugalness taught them to sacrifice for others. Karolyn loved to sing and would often set her words of discipline and correction with her children to song. She enjoyed traveling, taking many trips with her family. Whether remembering her kitchen filled with the smells of bacon frying or cinnamon rolls baking at Christmas time, or her fondness of giving nicknames or any number of simple but loving gestures, this devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend leaves a legacy of memories to her beloved family.
Those that survive are her children Valerie Wengert of Claremore, Melinda West of McKinney, TX and Patrick Watson and wife Paula of Broken Arrow; her grandchildren Rhiannon Wengert, Brittany Wengert, Samuel West and Brenna Watson; her sisters Mary Ann Due of Chouteau and Kathryn Landrum and husband Seth of Tulsa; her sister-in-law Ruth LeFan and her special friend Michael Gordon. Karolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Watson of 55 years, the two are together once again, son Dennis James Watson, two brothers Jim and Jack and two sisters Gail and Lynn.
Those who wish to honor Karolyn by making a memorial contribution may do so by contributing to Hope Harbor Children's Home. The family would like to thank Professional Home Hospice for their exceptional care and grace with special appreciation to Pat, Mary, Megan and Valene. Her family would like to tell you on Karolyn's behalf, be careful and (using the symbol for I love you from the American sign language) I love you.
