Dan Boyd, pioneer logger of Grays Harbor, was accidentally killed while working as foreman in one of the Willapa Harbor logging camps last week. He was injured Monday, Sept. 11 and passed away the following day in a South Bend Hospital where he had been taken for attention.
When the fatal accident occurred he and the hook-tender were standing upon a hillside several hundred feet away from the logging operations, a distance considered safe. The main line caught under a large chunk which being subject to such terrific strain loosened and was thrown up the hill striking Dan on the head. He regained his feet once after the blow but sank down again immediately. Dan Boyd was one of the most loved loggers of the country. Of logging foremen he was perhaps the most popular of all with the crews. His passing deprives the industry of a great logger of the "old school" and the worker have lost a staunch friend. The remains were laid to rest in the Menlo cemetery, Friday, Sept. 15th.
