Mr. Pace was born in Council Bluffs and moved to Des Moines from Ames in 1970. He retired as a cost estimator at Brown Brothers Electrical Contractors and was a Navy Seabee during World War II and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Surviving are two sons, David of Des Moines and Steven of San Francisco; and a sister, Loretta Pearson of Sacramento, Calif.
His longtime companion was Mae Izumi.
