Marion S. Szoke
Marion S. Szoke, 90, a resident of Gracious Living Estates in Montrose, and formerly of Lake Naomi, died Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Endless Mountain Medical Center in Montrose. She was the widow of Paul J. Szoke, who died in January 1991.
Born in Perth Amboy, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Simon George and Helen (Allen) Schade.
After graduating from Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, N.J., Marion attended the Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in Plainfield, N.J., where she earned her RN. She retired in 1973 from the Perth Amboy Health Department.
When in New Jersey, she was very active in Our Lady of Hungary Church activities and societies. She served as president of New Jersey PTA of Catholic Schools for several years.
In 1975, she moved to Lake Naomi, where she resided for 25 years. As a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Pocono Pines, she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a volunteer of the Clymer Library for many years, serving on the library board for five years. In 1998, Marion moved to the Montrose Square apartment and attended Holy Name of Mary Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Virginia Franssen and her husband, William, of Montrose; two sons, Arthur Szoke and his wife, Kathleen, of Fords, N.J., and Thomas Szoke and his wife, Christine, of Forked River, N.J.; one sister, Gladys Bernau of Florida; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three nieces. She was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Schade, in 1981.
The Rev. Father John Boyle will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Pocono Pines. Burial will follow in Pocono Lake Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until time of the mass on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Church, P.O. Box O, Pocono Pines, PA 18350; or Clymer Library, HC 89, Box 39B, Pocono Pines, PA 18350.
