Johann Samuel Filbert was from Wurtemberg. (Germany) He arrived in this country at Philadelphia, aboard the "Samuel" which was captained by Hugh Percy, on August 30th, 1737. He took the Oath of Allegiance to the Crown in Philadelphia, in 1737, and signed his full name, not his mark.
Samuel was one of the two donors of the land upon which the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran (Originally the Old Northkill, 1791-1905) Church was built in Bernville, PA. He conveyed one acre May 30th, 1775, noted in Deed Book # B2 page 208, Patent Book AA volume 4, page327.
Filbert is one of the oldest Teutonic names, derived from "fiel brecht" or bright and illustrious. The name is either spelled Filbert or Philbert in England, and as Philibert in France and Italy.
Samuel married MARIA SUZANNA MUENCHIN (Muench) on 4 Jun 1732, in Weingarten, Bayern. (Germany)
