GREENSBORO - Mary Anna Gentry Scales, of Friends Home Guilford, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Wesley Long Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Friends Home Guilford Living Room by Pastor Morris Brown.

Mary was born in Greensboro to the late J. E. Roller and Mary Coffin Gentry, granddaughter of the late W.E. and Lucy Coffin. She attended local city schools and Greensboro College, and was employed by Burlington Industries as an executive secretary. At the time of her retirement from that organization she was administrative assistant to their patent attorney John Maier.

Mary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the BI Friends Groups, the Friends Home Hand Bell Choir, and the Elkton, VA Historical Society. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her love of all animals, especially dogs.

Mary Anna is survived by her brother Edwin Gentry of Pinehurst; her nephew Steven Gentry and wife Betty and their sons Owen and Scott of Williamsburg, VA; and her lifelong companion J. Philip Williams of Greensboro.
