Funeral services for Mrs. Lois W. Evans, 65, prominent Colton businesswoman, civic leader and mother of Gene Evans, Hollywood celebrity and movie star, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Knopsnyder's Mortuary. Interment will follow at Montecito Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Evans, who resided at 935 North 7th St., died yesterday at Community Hospital following an extended illness. She was hospitalized Saturday for a lung infection and died of pulmonary pneumonia according to her doctor.
Born in North Vernon, Ind., Mrs. Evans and her husband, Thorne O. Evans, came to Colton 37 years ago. They owned and operated Evans Market on 7th St. for the past 32 years.
Active in many social clubs in Colton, Mrs. Evans was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Colton Business and Professional Women's Club, and Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thorne O.; two sons, Gene B. and Alfred C., both of Colton; three sisters, Helene Crater of Columbus, Ind., Doris Harris of Bedford, Ind., and Corinne Landreth of Pendleton, Ore.; and two brothers, Virgil Williams of North Vernon and Vernon Williams of Indianapolis, Ind.
