Former footballer and coach. He was a forward who played for Peñarol of Montevideo, Barcelona of Spain, River Plate of Argentina, Nacional of Montevideo, Defensor of Montevideo and the Uruguayan National Team. During his career he won the Uruguayan championship eight times, three times the Copa Libertadores de América, the Interamerican Cup once, and the Intercontinental Cup twice. With the Uruguayan national team, participated in three FIFA World Championships: Chile 1962, Mexico 1970 West Germany 1974. As a coach had a brilliant performance in Olimpia of Paraguay where he won ten times the title of Paraguayan football champion (1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1988, 1989, 1995, 1997, 1998 and 1999), Copa Libertadores de América twice and the Intercontinental Cup for the first time for a Paraguayan team. He also coached several teams around the continent and the Uruguayan national team between 1991 and 1993.
