Miller Earl Beck, 45, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at Queen of the Valley Hospital. He had resided at 8 Queens Court. A native of Paris, Miss., he attended school there and joined the U.S. Navy in 1940. He served at sea most of his naval career, with the USS Ranger being his last duty ship. He retired in 1968 at the rank of master chief quartermaster from Treasure Island. When Mr. Beck retired from the Navy he joined the California Highway Patrol and served in the Vallejo office as dispatcher. He also attended Napa College. Survivors include his widow, Marian; his father, Clarence Beck of Memphis, Tenn; two children, Marmie Beck of Napa and John W. Pharr, U.S. Air Force, Korea; three brothers, Paul, Gerald and Harold Beck, all of Memphis, Tenn; and two sisters, Martha Massingill of Senatobia, Miss., and Alice Lewis of New York, N.Y. Many nieces also survive. Mr. Beck was a member of U.S. Navy Reserve Unit No. 47 of Vallejo. Services are pending at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel.
