Sgt First Class Alfred Layton Proffitt served his country for 21 1/2 years. He served tours in Korea and Vietnam. He received an Honorable Discharge upon his retirement from the United States Army.
Alfred Proffitt married Arletta June Rose. They had 6 children together, Cheryl, Jeff, Mary, Leslie, Jennifer, and Stanley. He was the proud grandfather of 8: Jonathan Proffitt, Alfred "Scooter" Greenwood, Rachel Greenwood Carr, Tyler Proffitt, Zach Proffitt, Michael Proffitt, Bryce Proffitt, and Nicholas Proffitt. Great Grandfather to 5: Kylie Carr, Arlanna Proffitt, Ellianna Greenwood, and two babies on thier way, Baby Boy Carr, and Baby Boy Greenwood.
Alfred paused to walk into his next life in Heaven on March 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving and devoted family at West Central Georgia Hospital in LaGrange, Georgia.
His service to his country was honored as he was laid to rest on March 7, 2013 with Full Military Honors. He was once again surrounded by his family and honored by the Guard with a three-volley salute, TAPS played by a bugler, and the presentation to the family of the retired American Flag used as a pall.
