Opal was born in Owlett Green, Texas, Van Zandt County, in 1919 to Walter and Nancy Welch. Owlett Green no longer exists. Her mother died of flu on her 10th birthday. She married Lewis Kindle and they had three children; Nancy, Freeman and Loyd. She later married H.A. Albritton and had another son Tommy. She lived most of her life in Van, Texas working in the school cafeteria there for over 30 years. She died in Palestine, Texas in a nursing home in 2002.
