JEANNETTE SPENCER CREED

Jeannette Spencer Creed, died in Houston, Texas, on March 14,2005, at age 96. She was born May 13,1908, in the Kingdom Community, near Oxford, Mississippi. In 1909, her parents, Gaskell and Edna Spencer moved their family to Redwater,Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Redwater High School. In 1927, she married Hoye G. Creed, also of Redwater. Together they ran a general store
in Redwater. In 1929, In the heart of the depression, Jeannette and Hoye moved to Houston, Texas. They worked at a variety of jobs to support themselves and share with family members. In the late 1930's, Jeannette owned and operated a small cafe near the Houston Chronicle building and served many reporters from that newspaper. During WWII, Hoye served in the U.S. Navy Seabees, and in 1943
Jeannette began working for Hughes Tool, Co. She continued there until her retirement in 1964, when they returned to Redwater to live. Jeannette worked hard, and it gave her great pleasure to share with her family and friends. She was renowned for her cooking skills, especially pies. An avid gardner her home always had something in bloom. She took an active part in Redwater United Methodist Church. Jeannette was preceaded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Vardamon Spencer, Herman Spencer, and Gaston "Bill" Spencer; and sisters, Virginia Spencer and Marvis "Trix" Vickery. She is survived by her brothers, J.O. "Mike" Spencer and wife Elsie of Corpus Christi,Texas, and Glenn W. and LuNan Spencer of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Janie Spencer of Corpus Christi, Texas; nephews, James Clary and Rex Spencer; nieces, Paula Thompson, Catherine Whitney, Carolyn Ortiz, and Susanne Spencer; numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces; and cousins. The family would like to recognize the love, and devotion given by family and friends,especially Evelyn McDonald, Marjorie Black, Wanda Scott, Patsy Boone, and Lisa
Boone. With their care, Jeannette was able to live in her home until just a few months before her death. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at Redwater United Methodist Church on
Thursday, March 17,2005, at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Ken Golden officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, under direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home. Texarkana Daily Gazette, March 16,2005.
