THE TOMB
Died--In Dover, November 5, 1876, E. Pauline Asbury, daughter of Capt. and Mrs. A.E. Asbury, aged 2 years and 9 months.
Lines suggested by the burial of Pauline Asbury.

Slowly, slowly, moving along,
With an air of solemn gloom,
A sorrowful company bear
A babe to the silent tomb.
This flower cut down in the bud
Shall bloom in the garden of God.

Sadly, sadly, oppressed with grief,
With bleeding hearts do we submit;
No Father so loving as ours,
He can do none other than right.
The wisdom we know is Divine,
Yet vainly we seek its design.

Softly, softly, lower the child
Down into its lonely bed,
Yet cherish a thought that is sweet--
It sleepeth--it is not dead.
That which in slumber now lies,
In the image of Jesus shall rise.

Tenderly, tenderly, cover it o'er,
Yet heave not a mournful sigh;
The Savior shall bid her awake,
And Death at His bidding shall die.
The reign of the Monster thus o'er.
We shall part with our loved ones no more.
Dover, Nov. 7th.
