  Raymond F. Abert, age 81 of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
  Ray was born December 3, 1928 in Alhambra, Illinois son of the late Albert & Lucy (Dietz) Abert.
  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold & his wife Vernice "Sis", and a sister in infancy.
  Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, 4 sons, a daughter, 5 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter and a great grandson.
  Raymond worked for 45 years at Cassens & Sons in Edwardsville, retiring in 1999 as their General Manager. With his retirement he was then able to enjoy his love of boating full time at the Duck Club in St. Charles, Missouri, where his friends and fellow boaters spent many hours together. He served on the Board of Directors and was Past Commodore of the Duck Club Marina as well as Vice Commodore of the Contrio's Yacht Club. He truly enjoyed and freely shared his passion for family and friends and community. He will be sorely missed by all that shared his life. Raymond was devoted to his family, his friends and to the community, serving on the Southwest Illinois Planning Commission and two terms as an Alderman in Edwardsville. He was one of the driving forces and founding members of Montclaire Pool in Edwardsville. He was a member of Edwardsville Masonic Lodge #99 AF & AM, Scottish Rite of Southern Illinois, Ainad Temple, Edwardsville Shrine Club, Contrio's Yacht Club, Edwardsville Moose Lodge #1561, and the Madison County Sheriff's Association. He was a dedicated board member of the Riverbend United Way Agency. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II from 1944-45.
  Following funeral services Ray was cremated.
