The Howard Twp. farm was located on Lot 4;Concession 7. The 1871 Canadian Census shows William, aged 65, widower, living with son William and daughter-in-law, Johanna in Bothwell, Howard Twp. According to the Chatham Planet, he "died at his residence on Monday the 28th of Feb. 1876, aged 68 years" William's two oldest children stayed in Ontario, but his three younger children, Maria, William and Eliza all moved to Michigan in the U.S. William Jr. fought in the American Civil War. He returned to Howard Twp.; married in 1870 and then finally settled in Michigan in 1879.
William and Ellen's daughter, Dorothy Clancy O'Neill, is also buried in St. Michael's Cemetery.
My cousin visited St. Michael's several years ago to look for the gravestones of our 2nd great grandparents.
When he couldn't locate them, he was told that vandals had destroyed some of the old stones. However, he was shown the location of where they were buried.
