He was a US Air Force veteran enlisting at the age of 17. He had a love of aeronautics and after the Air Force made that his career. He worked for various companies including Republic Aviation, Ozone Aircraft Systems and Consolidated Airborne Systems and then working for Parker Hannifin, Elyria, OH from 1978 until his retirement as director of marketing in 2006.
Mr. Kretschmer was a devoted catholic that loved his faith and was a member of St. Raphael Church, Bay Village. In additions he was also an active member of his community belonging to the Bay Men's Club, the Knights of Columbus and was a past president of the Bay Village Kiwanis Club. He was an election poll worker and staunch member of the Republican Party. He was also and Instrument rated pilot.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann H. (nee Byrne), children Jo-Ann M. Gerde of North Royalton; Donna Orofino of Woodstock, NY; Kenneth J. Jr., of Spring Hill, FL; Kathy Ellen Veltri (Joseph) of Bay Village and Christopher J. (Emma) of Brunswick. Other survivors include grandchildren Ann, Christa, Lauren, Sara, Joey, Kenny, Kevin, Jacqueline, Gracie and Emily and a great grandson Carter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Loretta (nee Krieg) Kretschmer.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, Monday, March 4, from 7:00-9:00pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be St. Raphael Church, 525 Dover Center Rd., Bay Village at 1pm Tuesday. Fr. Timothy Gareau of the Church will officiate, interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon.
