Obituaries

Henry W. "Hank" Ronk, 77, of Oak View, died Monday, March 1, 2004, in Ojai, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Arcadia, Calif., on the site of the old Nita Baldwin Ranch, which is now the Santa Anita Racetrack. At an early age his family moved to Santa Barbara, and then to Ventura in 1942. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1944.

Toward the end of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, Calif., and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, until his honorable discharge in 1946. An electrician for more than 45 years, Mr. Ronk spent most of
that time working for Oilfield Electric of Ventura. He also worked as an electrician in the southern Arabian Peninsula from 1955 to 1957 in the protectorates of Muscat and Oman. While there, he installed an air conditioner in the harem of the sultan of Oman (under heavy guard). He was also able to do some traveling in the Middle East and Europe.

Mr. Ronk retired in 1989 and spent time traveling and camping with his wife, Norma, in their motor home until he was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1994. A resident of the Ojai Valley for 50 years, his interests included hunting, camping, boating, water skiing, motorcycling and ballroom and square dancing. He was also a handyman.

Mr. Ronk was a member of the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers #952, Ventura-Poinsettia Masonic Lodge #214, Channel Islands Chapter 79 of the Order of Eastern Star, Valley of Ventura Scottish Rite, the Al Malaikah Temple of the Shrine and the R.V. Rockers camping group.

He is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Norma Ronk, of Oak View; daughter Linda Cline of Pleasant Hill; son and daughter-in-law Linton "Spike" and Fammy Ronk of Paso Robles; brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Bobbie Ronk of Wilton, Conn.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Patricia Ronk, of Ventura.

Also surviving are three stepchildren, James Hallowell of Crawfordsville, Fla., Ted Hallowell of San Diego, and Sue
Happel of Hillsboro, Ore.; eight step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Sarah "Sadie" Ronk, of Ojai; and his sister, Mary O'Dell, of Yreka.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m. at the Ojai United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Burgeson and Masonic Lodge #214 officiating. His cremated remains will be inurned in the church's Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Help of Ojai-Hospice or Oak Tree House; to the California Neuroscience Institute at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard; or to the Ojai United Methodist Church-Memorial Garden.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai
