She and her family moved around quite a lot, including to Los Angeles, where Dorothy graduated from Fairfax High School in 1933. She then attended the Bellingham Normal School (now WWU) in Bellingham. During this time, she met her future husband, Galen A. Biery, Sr., and they were married on May 15, 1937 in Seattle. They lived on 13th Street until her husband's death in 1994. Dorothy then lived in apartments overlooking Bellingham Bay.
Dorothy was a homemaker and seamstress extraordinaire, and was a "single Mom" for many summers while her husband was working in Alaska in the fishing industry. For a time, she worked at Wahl's Department store in Bellingham and did considerable volunteer work at St. Luke's Hospital. She loved to cook and entertain, and she and her husband hosted many family gatherings. Dorothy was a passionate bridge player and played a few times a week prior to being slowed down by ill health. She was a member of the Daughter's of the King at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bellingham.
She was also an avid sports fan and loved watching the Mariners, Seahawks, and Huskies. She liked to travel and had a highlight in 2000 when she went to visit a son who was living in Europe at the time.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Galen Biery, daughter, Joan Biery, grandson, Brian Biery, and her four siblings. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and Julie the cat.
