Never married, Elizabeth was the daughter of Ellen Caroline Arledge and Thomas Clingman Aiken. Her parents married on May 23, 1882, in Henderson County, N.C. Her father died in 1886. On the 1900 census she is living with her mother, siblings and grandparents (Isaac and Rebecca Arledge). Her mother died in 1906. On the 1910 census she is living with her aunt, Laura.
Elizabeth Rebecca Aiken was a teacher. In 1930 she is teaching in Manhattan, New York. In the 1940s and early 1950s, she is a teacher in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She taught in private girls boarding schools.
