Moira A. Thwaits, 65, of Jay, New York, died Friday, March 19, 1993 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, New York.

She was born February 27, 1928 in Au Sable Forks, New York, the daughter of Royal and Orilla (Bowen) Joy.

Mrs. Thwaits was head of housekeeping for the Hungry Trout Motel in Wilmington, New York.

Survivors included her husband, Melvin Thwaits Sr. of Jay, whom she married October 21, 1950 in the United Methodist Church in Au Sable Forks; three sons, Daniel Thwaits and John Thwaits, both of Au Sable Forks, and Melvin Thwaits Jr. of Lake Clear, New York; three brothers, Adrian Joy of Jay, William Joy of Au Sable Forks and Phillip Joy of Whallonsburg, New York; four sisters, Vivian Pulsifer of Lewis, New York, Agnes Pulsifer of Elizabethtown, New York, Helen Wright of Schuyler Falls, New York, and Sylvia Joy of Au Sable Forks; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and an uncle, General "Ted" Joy of Au Sable Forks.

Three brothers died earlier: Carl Joy, Harlan Joy and Kenneth Joy.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 22, 1993, at 2 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in Au Sable Forks. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Au Sable Forks.
