DAVIS, John Paul The Pulaski Citizen 15 Jan 1969.
Word was received Saturday, January 11, by Giles County relatives that Pfc. John Paul Davis of Boonshill had been killed while serving in the Vietnam area.
The 20 year old Lincoln County soldier, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Davis, had been stationed in Vietnam since the first of December. He was inducted into the army six months ago.
The body will be returned to Boonshill, within a three weeks' period and funeral arrangements are tentatively placed at a date within that time. Burial will be in the Wright Cemetery.
Pfc. Davis was a 1966 graduate of Boonshill High School and was a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Maudie Ruth Orr, Georgia, Mrs. Rosemary Hudson, Florida, and Mrs. Theada Wilkins; two brothers, William Loyd Davis and Phillip Davis, both of Boonshill; and two grandparents, Mrs. W. Private First Class John Paul Davis was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, PFC Davis served our country until January 11th, 1969 in Dinh Tuong, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that John died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. John was born on September 6th, 1948 in Frankewing, Tennessee. PFC Davis is on panel 35W, line 069 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

I remember feeling Godly sorrow after hearing about this person dying in Vietnam. His brother, Bill Davis, was a teacher of mine in Boonshill School. I served in the US Army, and understand his committment to serve. My heart still goes out to the family of all the people who died. Robert J Jefferson.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his Combat Wounds, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal and The Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
