Mrs. Ludia (Lydia) Singleton Dies at Waxahachie
Waxahachie, Texas, July 1 – Mrs. Ludia (Lydia) Moore Singleton, 80, widow of the late former Postmaster J. W. Singleton, died Sunday at her home. She was taken suddenly ill with a heart attack Wednesday.
Born in Arkansas, she came with her parents to Ellis County at the age of 13 years, settling in the vicinity of historic Singleton Spring, in the Mountain Peak country. Nearly sixty years ago she married Mr. Singleton, son of the late Capt. John H. Singleton, Ellis County pioneer.
The family moved to Waxahachie in 1895. Mr. Singleton died here in 1927. Surviving Mrs. Singleton are six sons and daughters, Dr. A. O. Singleton of Galveston, John V. Singleton of Waxahachie, Mrs. Adrian Poole of El Paso, Mrs. Will D. Hines of Waxahachie, E. E. Singleton of Waxahachie, and Mrs. B. D. Byrne of Austin. She also leaves twelve grandchildren; a brother, L. O. Moore of Midlothian, and a sister, Mrs. Jim Godfrey of Shreveport.
Sunday was the second time this year that her friends and her family gathered in the Singleton home. The former occasion was a happy one, for it was a reunion in honor of her eightieth birthday, which was observed in February.
They assembled Sunday afternoon for sad rites, conducted at the home by the Rev. McKinley Norman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Dr. C. R. Wright, Methodist presiding elder. Burial was at Mountain Peak.
