FLORENCE -Dorothy Dunn Kirby, age 81, of Florence, South Carolina went to be with the Lord and the Loved ones that went before her this 9th day of March 2013. She passed peacefully and with dignity in her home with her loved ones around her including her little dog BC. Dorothy had fought a very hard and courageous battle of Lymphoma for the past four years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Roy Henry Kirby Sr. in January 1995 and her son Roy Henry Kirby Jr. in December of 1994. She was also preceded in death by her mother Virginia Bell and father Zachariah Foster Dunn, Her Sisters Shirley D. Batten and Kathleen Deane and one brother Zachariah Jr. as an infant.

Dorothy was born May 19, 1931 in Waynesboro Virginia to Zachariah and Virginia Dunn. "Dot" attended McIntire High School in Charlottesville, Va. She began her working career at the age of fourteen. She went to work for the Charlottesville Telephone Service in 1945 during WWll as an Operator. She married Roy Henry Kirby Sr. November 23, 1950 and lived in Crozet, Va. She continued her working career at Acme Visible Records and was the Operator of the family business, Crozet Sanitary. Dorothy lived and raised her family in Crozet, Va. until 1979. Dorothy was a member of Crozet Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and a member and Royal Matron of Amaranth Blue Ridge Court #8 while living in Virginia.

Dorothy and her husband moved to Florence, S.C. in 1979. There she went and earned her degree in Real Estate, Typing and Word Processing. She sold Real Estate for awhile as well as worked with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Champus Division from which she retired from in 1995. After Dorothy retired from work she enjoyed traveling back to Virginia to visit her family and friends there. She and her sister Shirley started and organized the annual Zack and Virginia Day. This was for getting the direct descendants of Zack and Virginia together for visiting, fellowship and a meal together. Dorothy and her cousin, Christine Cumings continued the Organization of the annual Dunn Reunion. Dorothy traveled to Virginia every year for these events until her health would no longer permit her to do so. The annual Zack and Virginia Day 2012 was held at her home in her honor which really turned into a surprise 81st birthday party.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving memories one daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Irene and her husband Archie "Munk" Muckenfuss of Ridgeville, S. C.. A daughter-in-law Diane Merritt of Roanoke, Va She is survived by two grandsons, Roy "Chuckie" Henry Kirby Jr. and his wife Kristi of Roanoke, Va.. Archie "Trey" Muckenfuss III and his wife Julie of Ridgeville, S.C. and one great granddaughter, Reagan Kirby, and a Great Grandson Kirby that is due in June in Roanoke, Va.

She is also survived by her siblings, Odell Dunn and his wife Helen of Charlottesville, Va. , Royal "Roy" Christmas Dunn and his wife Peggy of Richmond, Va., Sisters, Athleen Goolsby of Afton, Va. , Audrey Goolsby and her husband Jack of Afton, Va. , Sylvia "Jean" Dudley of Crozet, and Cora Horne of Amhurst, Va.. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many loving friends and Church family from both Virginia and South Carolina.

Dorothy was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Darlington, S. C. She served as President of her Sunday School Class. "Dot" and other church members worked for many years with the TLC organization assisting the less fortunate in food, heat and etc. She organized outings and trips for the Trinity Travelers (now known as "Dot's" Travelers). This group traveled near and far. They traveled as far as Ireland, and took cruises to Bermuda, and the Bahamas. They took Trips to Virginia, Tennessee and other states to tour Vineyards, and places of history. She always enjoyed organizing and joining the group on their outings for lunch after Church and or a Dinner and a show in Myrtle Beach. She was unable to join them on the last few trips that she was able to organize for them due to her failing health. She belonged to the Castalian club and enjoyed reading and sharing her many books that she had in her home. She loved to work in her yard with her flowers. She would even take her scooter out into her yard just so she could put her spade or shovel into the soil. She always enjoyed having her family and friends in her home for visits and meals. She was always a gracious host.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, Aunt and friend. "Dot" will truly always be loved and missed. She touched the hearts of all that knew her in ways that will never be forgotten. She was always a mentor and a gracious lady.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to Dr. O'Brien, Dr. Pavy, all of the staff on the different units that took care of "Dot" at McLeod Hospital in Florence. The McLeod Hospice House the McLeod Hospice nurses, and the Hospice Aides that came to assist in her care and comfort. A very special Love and Thank You goes out to Janice and Charles Bethea for being there day and night taking care of "Dot's" ever needs.

Family night will be Monday 3/11/13 from 6 to 8 PM at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington, S.C. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 3/12/13 at 4 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church at 126 Pearl St. Darlington, S.C., with Interment to follow, at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family wishes to extend the invitation to anyone that would like to meet back at "Dot's" home for fellowship. Donations may be made in Dorothy's name to The Trinity Church Bus Fund, P. O.
