At the advanced age of 78 years, 9 months and 9 days, John Moss Mason, one of the earliest settlers of the district, passed away Monday, May 20, 1912. He suffered a severe stroke of paralysis about eight o'clock the previous Saturday morning, and gradually sank into unconsciousness. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and four children, Mrs. Frank Plemmons of La Plata, Mrs. Laura A. Frizzell of Manitou Springs, Colorado, George D. Mason of Richland Township, and John W. Mason of Manitou Springs, Colorado. Interment was made on Tuesday under the direction of Goodding & Christie at the Steele Cemetery.
