Marjorie Tylander Willes, 93, died March 11, 2005, at her home.

She was born in the family home on Indian River Drive in Fort Pierce and was a lifelong resident.

She attended Florida State College for Women, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

She was the earliest baptized and oldest lifelong member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where she had been an active member of the Episcopal Church Women, the Daughters of the King, the Altar Guild and the church choir and had participated in other activities of that parish.

She was a founding member and past president of Capron Trail Garden Club, now the Fort Pierce Garden Club. She specialized in growing and hybridizing daylilies, winning many awards throughout the Florida Daylily Society Shows.

She was a member of the Cora Stickney Harper Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and was a state representative of and past president of Chapter AR of PEO.

During World War II, she volunteered as a driver for the American Red Cross motor corps and served on a night-time station spotting aircraft and reporting to the Army Air Forces.

She also was active in the St. Lucie County Historical Society, the United Way, Heathcote Botanical Gardens, the Humane Society and many other organizations.

Survivors include brothers, Raymond Tylander of Jupiter and Robert Tylander of Hendersonville, N.C.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Errol Shippen Willes; sons, William Willes and Richard Errol Willes; sister, Elizabeth T. Arnold; and brother, William H. Tylander.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Restoration Fund, 210 S. Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce, FL 34950.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. March 18 in the parish hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. A Holy Eucharist service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Yates Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.
