Services for James Hulet Phillips, of Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in Lloyd James Funeral Home chapel with Don Crawford officiating. Burial is in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
Mr. Phillips passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Tyler. He was born on Dec. 20, 1925, in Smith County the late Jacob Hulet and Loyce Lucille Mackey Phillips. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Mary Frances Jones, on April 15, 1951, at Glenwood Methodist Church. His working career included serving as a salesman for an auto parts company, Sears Roebuck, co-owning West Erwin Cleaners, Toledo Scales, and as a custodian for his church, West Erwin Church of Christ, where he faithfully served as a deacon since 1958, in the benevolent program and in many other areas of service there. He was a wonderful family man who dearly loved his children. He was kind, a faithful friend to all and helped anyone in need. He also enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Frances Phillips, of Tyler; children, Julia Phillips, of Lampasas, Reagan Phillips, of Jacksonville, Denton Phillips, of Noonday, and Marshall Phillips, of Vista, Calif.; granddaughter, M'Lynn Phillips, of Lubbock; nephew, Seth Cunningham, of Borger; niece, Lois Wright, of Pampa; and nephew, Frank Seaman, of Texas.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer Ann Phillips; sister, Virginia Cunningham; and half-sister, Clarabelle Seaman.
