Leona Withers was born and raised in Scranton PA, the third of four children born to John and Leona (Parisot) Withers. She was married to Harold C. Gibbs, also of Scranton, and the mother of one son, James H. Gibbs. Her sister Aline (Gillman-Seche) predeceased her as did both of her brothers, George Withers and John (Jack) G. Withers.

My Aunt Leona was a life-long member of West Park Methodist Church in Scranton where she served as financial secretary for 39 years and was employed as a medical secretary at Moses Taylor Hospital of Scranton and later as a clerk at Gertrude Hawk Candies. She also served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, acting as nurse's aide for numerous bloodmobile drives.

Leona's husband passed away in December 1981. Following his death she remained at the home they had spent their entire married life in, but eventually moved to a retirement home in Tunkhannock PA where she spent her remaining years. She died at the age of 92. She is survived by her son Jim and daughter-in-law Barbara, grandchildren Denise and Thomas Gibbs, and three great-grandchildren, Brenda, Neil, and Holly Gibbs.
