Friday, 11 November 1938---TROY MESSENGER (Troy, AL)
.
On Thursday morning, November 3rd, the Death Angel visited the home of J.F. Waters and carried away the spirit of B.S. Pope. Mr. Pope was ill only a few days, suffering a heart attack, Saturday, October 29th.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. B.S. Pope; six sons, E.L. Pope, Ensley, Ala, Harvey Pope, Ozark, Soloman Pope, Birmingham, George Pope, Gadsden, Olin Pope, Headland and Tom Pope, Americus, Ga; five daughters, Mrs. M.S. McWhorter, Clayton, Mrs. A.G. McWhorter, Troy, Mrs. S.T. Sizemore, Troy, Mrs. Roan Winfield, Midland City and Mrs. J.F. Waters, Spring Hill.

Mr. Pope was a good Christian man. His ever wish was to be good in all his deeds. It is sad indeed to chronicle the death of such a good man. Mr. Pope had reached the ripe age of 83 years.

The body was laid to rest in Indian Creek cemetery in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends and loved ones who had gathered to pay their last respects to the departed one, who is sweetly resting in the Heavenly home where sorrow is not known.

(Information on his death certificate is incorrect as it shows his mother was Elizabeth Sheppard. No one in the family knows where this name came from. His mother's maiden name was Page. Also it shows the cemetery name as Antioch. It is not known if Indian Creek Baptist Church was previously known as Antioch.)
